Brazil's papaya exports are experiencing steady growth in 2024, according to data from the Brazilian Fruit Growers Association (Abrafrutas). Despite occasional price differences, Brazilian papaya often outperforms local varieties in international markets due to its high quality and acceptance.
From January to October, exports reached 35.840 tons, marking a 14.65% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth generated $47,790,000 million in revenue, up by 7.39%. Espírito Santo led the export figures with 15.850 tons, followed by Rio Grande do Norte and Bahia.
Experts from the National Supply Company (Conab) and the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) attribute this success to strong production levels and rising demand in Europe. While papaya remains a niche product, European buyers are driving its demand.
