Robotization in fruit orchards, a nearer future
Afrucat and Eurecat Lleida will accelerate the development of innovative technological projects for the stone fruit companies.
The Fruit Business Association of Catalonia (Afrucat) and the technology center Eurecat Lleida in Catalonia (Spain) have formalized yesterday a strategic collaboration with the aim of accelerating the development of advanced technological solutions that respond to the main challenges of the fruit sector. The agreement also includes the contribution of new technological capabilities to the business network dedicated to this activity and specific training and talent development actions to strengthen professional skills in the sector.
Objective: productivity improvement
In the words of the president of Afrucat, Montse Baró, "Innovation aimed at improving productivity is a key task in our fruit sector". To achieve this, the agreement will facilitate the conceptualization, experimentation and validation of new technological solutions with a practical, scalable and results-oriented approach, and will prioritize those projects with transformative capacity and with the potential to be implemented in a real and efficient way by the companies. The general director of Eurecat, Xavier López, emphasizes that "this agreement reinforces Eurecat's commitment to contribute to the transformation of the agri-food sector, through the sum of technological and industrial capabilities that allow the development of strategic projects with high added value". "Taking advantage of the potential of technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence or biotechnology, we will contribute to boost competitiveness, sustainability and resilience of companies in the fruit sector and to position Catalonia as a European benchmark in agro-industrial innovation," said Xavier López.
