Melons and watermelons: growth forecasts for production and export

The main destinations for export are the United States, Canada, Mexico and European countries.
In Honduras, the agricultural sector estimates that melon and watermelon production and exports of these fruits will exceed levels recorded in previous years.
Production will increase this year thanks to the increase in the number of hectares cultivated, especially in the southern part of the country. Exports will also increase. Demand from the US and Canadian markets has been growing in recent years. This year shipments of melons and watermelons already exceed 100 containers per day.
According to PRONAGRO data (Programa Nacional de Desarrollo Agroalimentario) in 2017 fruit exports generated revenues of 600 million USD, exports of melons and watermelons exceed 100 million USD
