The amendment of customs duties, desired by the European Commission, applicable to products from third countries concern the agricultural sector.
The European Commission decided to calculate customs duties "flat-rate import value" and no longer based on the actual value of the goods for products from third countries. This flat-rate import value is calculated daily on the average of the 49 European markets. Daily quotation therefore make it impossible contracts hitherto entered into retail and based on several months.
This new measure will come into force on 1 October. Moroccan agricultural sector is concerned and believes that this could halve the volume of Moroccan exports to Europe. Moroccan authorities have asked the European Union to respect previous agreements.
