Price reduction for Indian mangoes which are in overabundance on the domestic market.
The prohibition decided by the European Union to Indian mangoes, including the famous Alphonso variety, caused in India oversupply and decline in prices.
In the domestic market, to the delight of consumers, but also on other export markets. The market in the Middle East, with Dubai, traditional market for Indian mangoes, is already saturated according to industry professionals who expect continued price declines.
The European Union announced a prohibition on imports of Indian mangoes after finding parasites (207 infected flocks in 2013). These pests were a potential threat to European agriculture, hence the prohibition announced by the EU.
