“This year we obtained the first crop of the two new yellow kiwifruit varieties that we planted a few years ago, the ones developed by our Italian partner New Kiwi Plant. I would not say these volumes are commercialable, but in the coming 2 years we expect to increase volumes. Marketing window of these varieties is expected to be from September to December or even January”, says Christina Manossis.
In regards to the destination markets, Manossis expects a big future for these varieties in Asia, where Zeus already has a strong reputation.
Besides broadening its varietal offer, Zeus Kiwi updates its equipment and, at the same time, seeks to contribute to a more sustainable world.
“By the end of June 2022, we plan to finish installing four new cold rooms in our facility in Greece, and also some renewable source of energy - solar panels - on top of the roofs of our packhouses. We are struggling to minimize CO2 emissions to the environment. Now, 30% of our capacity is covered by solar energy. And the objective for the coming years is to achieve around 60% of coverage, which also will be officially certified. By 2030, there will be more strict rules regarding CO2 emissions, and we want to be prepared in advance. Very soon we will release the new declaration of CO2 emissions.”, concluded Manossis.
