Honduras continues to increase its melon exports, particularly to Europe.
Honduras melon exports are doing well and continue increase every season. Melon exports came in at 50.6 million U.S. dollars for the harvest 2010-2011, the highest figure ever reached.
According to preliminary figures from the Ministry of Agriculture, export volume was 240 million kilos up from the 2009-2010 season, when the figure was 231.7 million kilos.
In terms of destination, 60% of the melons were sold in the U.S. and 40% in the European Union. Countries such as England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain are demanding more cantaloupe, honeydew, Galia and Charentais melons.
