Up to 50% of southern Queensland's strawberry crop was destroyed by heavy rain in the week of 20th Aug, as unseasonable weather resulting in the widespread loss of fruit.
After the coldest July on record, the fruit stopped growing, but started to come back only to be damaged by the rain. One grower stated it was probably one of the hardest years the strawberry industry have had for quite a while.
