Carrefour and Tesco are candidates for the purchase of the Emperia group
MD
Carrefour, world No. 2 and Tesco, world No. 3, are candidates for the distribution activities of “Emperia”, that includes 233 supermarkets and grocery stores.
The projected sale is valued at 900 million zlotys (205 million euros) and includes the brands: Stokrotka, Delima, Spolem Tychy and Maro Market, which represents 233 shops, supermarkets and grocery stores. The Emperia Group Holding announced its intention to sell in June. A dozen companies, including Carrefour and Tesco, are looking at making the acquisition.
In Poland, Tesco's market share is around 5% and Carrefour is 4%.
The acquisition of Emperia would consolidate either's positions but they would remain far behind Biedronka, which is the leader in Poland with over 13% market share.
