The Braeburn Apple might have a limited future in New Zealand as producers are ask questions about its sustainability after the decline of harvests and demand.
New Zealand's latest forecast for its Braeburn apple harvest indicates a significant fall in production. The initial estimate of pre-harvest in January included production of 4.5 million boxes, but new data show 3.7 million boxes (65,000 tonnes) at most.
The volumes are therefore worse than last year, which was previously thought to be the lowest record of 3.8 million boxes.
The New Zealand growers are wondering about the future of the Braeburn variety after several years of low yields and declining export demand.
