Blueberry production in Chile is expected to increase by 49% within 5 years.
According the latest information and estimates from plantations, blueberry production in Chile is expected to increase by 49% within 5 years.
The Chilean Blueberry Committee has requested a study to estimate blueberry production between the 2011-2012 and 2015-2016 seasons. The study was based on area and yield, by age and region of the plantations.
In 2011 the area planted dedicated to blueberries
covered 12,901 hectares. Production forecasts are 108,809 tons for the season and 162,926 for the 2015-2016 season, an increase of 49.7%.
Exports are expected to follow the increase of production. In a few weeks the Chilean Blueberry Committee will provide an estimate for the new season. The numbers should be down from earlier estimates due to the weather.
