Over 50,000 hectares affected due to rainfall in Northern region

The strong rains that have been occurring in different regions of Peru, especially in the north, have affected around 50,000 hectares dedicated to agricultural activities.
The northern region represents a large part of the country's agro-exports. The important products such as blueberries, bananas, table grapes, avocados, mangoes, citrus fruits, asparagus, among others, are produced there.
According to Claudia Solano, the manager of agro-exports at ADEX, in January and February, a decrease in banana and mango exports is already being observed due to the rains that are hitting Piura, Tumbes, and Lambayeque.
Solano explained that the rains not only generate flooding in agricultural lands, but also cause the presence of pests that attack crops. Likewise, the rains affect transportation routes, which increases the logistical costs of agro-export companies.
However, she stressed that there is still the prospect of exceeding $10 billion in agro-exports.
