At its last meeting in Madrid, the Spanish-French group of tomato, composed of producers of two countries, indicated that tomato exports from Morocco have reached an historic high in December 2010.
In December 2010, exports of tomatoes from Morocco, according to the Statistical Office of the European Commission, Eurostat, have reached 70,479 tons, which represent double of the quota planned under the current agreement, set at 31,300 tons and a additional quota of 3169 tons.
This has caused a serious crisis on the Community market and heavy losses for European producers. The Spanish-French group found that complaints about violations of Morocco are repeated each year.
