A report by ResearchandMarkets reports that the global vegetable market generated $ 1,249.8 billion in 2018, up by 2.4% from the previous year. This value increased by an annual average of + 4.1% over the period 2007 to 2018. In volume, world production of vegetables reached 1,555 million tonnes in 2018, an increase of 3.2% over the previous year.
In terms of world trade, only 7 countries accounted for 64% of world exports by volume: the Netherlands (6.1 million tonnes), Mexico (5.8 million tonnes), Spain (5.1 million tonnes), China (4.3 million tonnes), France (3.5 million tonnes), Germany (2.4 million tonnes) and the United States (2.4 million tonnes). In value, only 3 countries accounted for 46% of world exports: Spain ($ 6.7 billion), the Netherlands ($ 6.5 billion) and Mexico ($ 6.2 billion).
