Producers want to strengthen capacity of the production zone to keep the maximum level.
Costa Rica reached its maximal capacity of pineapple production according to the president of the National Chamber of pineapple exporters (CANAPEP).
Costa Rica is the 1st exporter country of fresh pineapple in the world with approximately 3,6 million tons of pineapple produced on about 45.000 hectares.
According to the producers, ground is saturated but if production was moved far from the export center, it would make increase costs.
The market would not accept a rise in prices according to the president of pineapple producers and exporters.
Producers want to strengthen capacity of the production zone to keep the maximum level.
52 % of the exports of pineapple of Costa Rica are intended for the European Union, the rest is sent in the United States and in Canada. Pineapple are the 1st product of export of the country and reported 601,10 billion dollars in 2009.
