Poor start for the campaign of melons and watermelons

Weakness in prices at the beginning of the season for melons (-60%) and watermelons (-10%).
With the spring crops, the melon and watermelon campaigns have started but prices are well below average for this period.
According to COEXPHAL, the melon is trading 60% below last year's average and watermelon 10% below average.
This price decrease could be explained by a temporary overlap in recent weeks caused by the delay in the start of the melon harvest. In the case of watermelons, production is rising slightly but is facing a weak demand in the target markets, due to a weather unfavorable to the consumption of summer fruits.
