Argentinan Blueberry production for 2018
The blueberry harvest is about to begin in the southern hemisphere. In some countries, collectors are already working, but volumes are still limited. European importers are looking forward to the new overseas season.
The export season has already begun and it has done a little later because of the cool temperatures that exist in all the growing areas. The delay is estimated at two or three weeks compared to last year's campaign. The harvest is expected to reach 18,500 tons, which represents a 15% growth.
Producers will have to face lower returns on internal taxes, as the Government has reduced the percentage from 6% to 3.25%. "The business is done in cents per kilo, so the consequences are important," says one trader. This measure will have a direct impact on the results of the producers.
China would be their mayor importer, as Blueberries are especially popular for the health benefits they offer, something that appeals to many consumers.
