The country risks a shortage of fresh produce.
Supermarkets are struggling to supply or replenish their stocks of fresh produce, due to heavy rains that hit the producing regions.
North-east of the country has recorded several weeks of incessant rains in some areas (Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Gautengctee) productions are destroyed and infrastructure are damaged . The overall damage could reach more than 500 million rand (34 million euros).
Professionals predict a surge in prices on fresh produce for some time. The situation is expected to be normalized after replanting devastated productions and new crops.
