Prices drop for essential products in Toluca’s markets

Adjustments are due to seasonal supply and demand, as well as climatic factors that directly influence the production and distribution of agricultural products.
In the first months of 2025, products such as tomato, papaya, strawberry, and onion have registered a drop in prices in the markets of Toluca, the capital of the State of Mexico, compared to the close of 2024.
Saladet tomatoes can be found from 12 pesos per kilo (≈$0.60 USD), and even two kilos for 25 pesos (≈$1.24 USD) in some points of sale, while larger varieties reach 20 pesos per kilo (≈$0.99 USD).
Papaya, which used to sell for up to 60 pesos (≈$2.98 USD), now costs between 20 and 30 pesos per kilo (≈$0.99 - $1.49 USD), according to traders, thanks to current weather conditions.
Onions have also dropped, going from 20 to 12 pesos a kilo (≈$0.99 - $0.60 USD), while strawberries, which cost 60 pesos for half a kilo (≈$2.98 USD), now sell for that same price for a kilo.
In contrast, Tabasco bananas and oranges have risen in price. Bananas are between 22 and 30 pesos per kilo (≈$1.09 - $1.49 USD), and oranges are between 22 and 35 pesos (≈$1.09 - $1.74 USD), which has impacted businesses such as coffee shops, which have removed natural juice from their menus.
Seasonal fruits such as guava, pineapple, melon and mango also offer cheaper options.
These adjustments are due to seasonal supply and demand, as well as climatic factors that directly influence the production and distribution of agricultural products.
