Peru’s mango sector closed 2025 with weaker December harvest
VU
The contraction is mainly attributed to smaller harvest volumes.
Peru harvested 106,434 tonnes of mangoes in December 2025, marking a 21.4% drop compared with December 2024, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).
The contraction was mainly attributed to smaller harvest volumes, which the institute linked to declining export prices that discouraged shipments abroad.
Production losses were concentrated in several key regions. Piura, the country’s dominant mango-growing area responsible for 94.2% of national output, recorded a 22.9% decline. Other sharp reductions were reported in Huánuco (-76.9%), Tumbes (-47.9%), Amazonas (-47.7%), Huancavelica (-39.0%), Lima (-36.4%), and Moquegua (-7.1%).
Despite the overall fall, a number of regions posted increases. The strongest growth came from Apurímac (+300.0%) and Cajamarca (+243.5%), followed by Ucayali (+58.8%), Lambayeque (+48.6%), Áncash (+44.0%), Ayacucho (+31.6%), Madre de Dios (+28.8%), Junín (+6.6%), Cusco (+5.7%), La Libertad (+2.5%), Loreto (+1.1%), and San Martín (+0.5%).
