The town of Cavaillon celebrates Melon

Cavaillon is indisputably the French capital of Melon and will celebrate during a big party this weekend.

The whole town will be in the celebration of  "Melon Fest" on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th of July, bringing together farmers, restaurateurs, artisans, and traders around various animations.

Many free tastings of melons will be offered to the public. Special menus around the melon in restaurants. To complete the celebration, groups of Latin music, horses, bulls,  are on the program..

The cultivation of melons in Cavaillon is old, the first mention of melon in an official text of the city appears from 1495 in a regulation against pilfering of fruits. Since then, production has grown steadily and melons now reached almost 130 000 tons, which puts it in the first place at national level.
