Vietnam is now China's 2nd largest supplier

In 2023, Vietnam overtook Chile to become China's 2nd largest supplier of fruit and vegetables. This performance is largely attributed to the boom in Vietnamese durian exports. 

 

According to local media reports, in 2023 China imported fruit and vegetables worth an estimated USD 24.4 billion. The main supplier countries were Thailand (USD 8.6 billion) and Vietnam (USD 3.4 billion), which overtook Chile in 2023.

 

This performance is largely attributable to the boom in durian exports, but also to exports of processed fruit and vegetables, which have recorded significant growth. Vietnam's land border with China means that it can benefit from shorter shipping times than its competitors. 

 

In 2023, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports totalled USD 5.6 billion. The aim is to reach USD 7 billion by 2024.
