New hobby or lifestyle changes? Almost all Americans say they take one snack at least 1 time per day.

The recent report MINTEL "Snacking Motivations and Attitudes US in 2015" reveals that 94% of Americans take at least 1 snack and 50% of adults take 1 snack 2-3 times a day.

Consumers often explain that it is to satisfy a desire (62%), salty snacks are more appreciated (63%) than their nutritional value. Almost a third of consumers (31%) noted that they choose snaking through the practical reason, for example it is too early or too late for a proper meal. A quarter of consumers (25%) engage in snacking for boredom and 16% to fight against stress.

They are 33% to say that this year they chose healthy snacks with simple ingredients and low in calories. Convenience is one of the most important factors when choosing a snack: 77% say they prefer ready-to-eat snack rather than products to prepare. Last lesson of this report: consumers feel there is not enough product with practical packaging, such as individual servings or reclosable packages.
