Almeria wants to be the World Capital of Tomato

" Great Tomato Day " held in Almeria by producer associations and local and regional authorities.

This day has highlighted the major role in the production of tomatoes. The region of Almería has over 9000 hectares devoted to this crop and produces over 1 million tons of tomatoes , 60% are for export to the rest of Europe. The turnover reached 500 million. Spain 1/4 of produced tomatoes come from Almeria.

The city with its role as " tomato referent" natural can be considered as the World Capital of Tomato , in the words of the mayor.
