The theme of World Food Day 2013 will be "Sustainable food systems at the service of food security and nutrition."
The food system consists of the environment, people, institutions and processes that are involved in the production, processing and distribution of food products. Each component of the food system has impact on the availability and accessibility of food at the chain end. Fighting against malnutrition involves engaging an integrated action, based on complementary interventions in agriculture and agrifood, natural resource management, public health, education and other sectors.
What would a sustainable food system look like? Is it possible to achieve? And what should be changed to achieve this goal? World Food Day 2013 is an opportunity to address these issues and many others, to contribute to a better future.
