Rangpur’s GI-tagged Haribhanga mango will soon appear on the market

Last season, over 38,000 tonnes of ‘Haribhanga’ mangoes were produced in Bangladesh, with nearly 30,000 tonnes coming from Rangpur alone.
In Rangpur, Bangladesh, the popular ‘Haribhanga’ mango is set to hit markets by mid-June. Known for its sweet taste, soft flesh, and lack of fibre, this local variety is already drawing attention from traders across the country.
Harvesting is expected to begin in mid-June and continue through July, according to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE). Farmers are optimistic about a bumper crop this year thanks to favorable rainfall and careful orchard management.
Last season, over 38,000 tonnes of ‘Haribhanga’ mangoes were produced, with nearly 30,000 tonnes coming from Rangpur alone. Commercial farming of this variety is rapidly expanding in Rangpur and nearby districts like Dinajpur, Kurigram, and Thakurgaon.
Farmers are expecting a trade value between Taka 180 and 200 crore (approximately USD $4.76 to $16.4 million) from this season's yield. The mango has also gained Geographical Indication (GI) status, boosting its value in both local and international markets. Growers have followed DAE guidelines closely, using proper treatments to ensure quality.
