The continued expansion of kiwifruit production, fruit quality and strong international demand have enabled Zespri to achieve a record result for the 2020/21 season.
Zespri has published his results for the 2020/21 season. Total global sales reached NZD 3.89 ($ 2.83 billion), up 14% from the previous season.
Global sales volume increased 10% from the previous year to reach 181.5 million trays.
"The demand for Zespri Green and Zespri SunGold kiwifruit has increased and we are pleased to see a growing interest in our brand new variety, Zespri Red, which is a testament to our industry's continued investment in innovation and the search for new ways to add value to New Zealand and our international production bases, ”commented Bruce Cameron, President of Zespri.
According to Dan Mathieson, CEO of Zespri, these good results confirm the growth in sales of non-New Zealand products, from partner producers located in Italy, France, Japan and Korea. These production bases are an essential part of the company's sourcing strategy, so that kiwis are available to consumers 12 months out of 12.
The 2021/22 season in New Zealand is already well underway. The Green kiwifruit harvest is in full swing. Another record kiwifruit crop is expected, according to Dan Mathieson, with further expansion of production of Zespri SunGold kiwifruit as well as Zespri Red.
