Faced with the COVID-19 pandemic, the external borders of the European Union and the Schengen area are closed for 30 days. Reinforced controls are in place at these borders, but goods continue to circulate.
The leaders of European countries have agreed to close their external borders to non-residents. This decision came after the reintroduction of controls at the internal borders of the EU and the Schengen area by several countries: Denmark, Poland, Czech Republic, Austria Germany, Slovenia, Switzerland, Denmark, Hungary, Spain, Estonia, Greece, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Norway.
The flow of goods to the EU and within the EU must continue to guarantee the supply, including essential items such as medicines, but also the food and components required by factories, said Ursula Von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.
Advocating the establishment of "priority corridors" for the transport of goods, to put an end to traffic jams and ensure the smooth movement of goods.
