Statistics from the Mediterranean Exporters Union show that the upward trend since January 2017 is confirmed this month.
In all exports, tomatoes accounted for one-quarter of total sales, followed by lemon (17%), orange (13%), mandarin (10%) and pepper followed by 7%. Exports of apples which quadrupled and potatoes tripled in comparison with February 2016, while exports of grapefruit and pomegranate fell by 32 and 28 percent, respectively.
However, pomegranates still represent more than half of fruit sales, followed by apples (31% of fruit exports).
Tomatoes also account for more than half of vegetable sales, followed by peppers (18% of vegetable exports).
Russian imports continue to increase (+ 22% compared to February 2016), as well as those of Iraq (+ 26%). Germany is the 5th largest importer with an 11% increase in exports. Note that tomato remains a prohibited product for export to Russia.
By analyzing the citrus export figures, it seems that the grapefruit season is coming to an end earlier than the previous season.
