WPC 2026 will take place in Kenya where potato farming contributes to food security, poverty eradication and economic development (Photo: kenyanews.go.ke).
This will be the first time that this globally significant biennial trade event will be held in Sub-Saharan Africa.
World Potato Congress Inc. has announced that Nairobi has been chosen as the site for the 13th edition of the WPC which will take place in 2026.
The proposed theme for the event is “Developing global potato partnerships to improve food systems, food security and international trade”.
In Kenya, the potato is the 2nd food and cash crop after maize and occupies a prominent place in terms of contribution to food security, poverty eradication and economic development. It is grown by around 800,000 smallholders, employs 3.5 million actors along the marketing channels and contributes more than KES 50 billion (USD 360.7 million) to the national economy.
