Performance, consistency, efficiency, and reliable technical support: Indian potato chip producer finds ideal sorting solution

In 2005, ATOP Foods started its business and soon became the first potato chip and nankeen producer in India to obtain ISO 2000:2005 certification for food safety management systems. In 2018, they established a new company called Bizz Corporation, focusing on French fries and specialty products under the ChillFill brand.
Soon, they set themselves the dual targets of boosting production volumes and product variety, as well as maintaining high product quality. “This meant we had to upgrade our potato peeling and sorting machines,”, remembers Bizz Corp CEO, Mr. J M Patel.
In 2022, they invested in TOMRA Food's TOMRA 5B sorter and the Orbit Steam Peeler. “We sought machines with exceptional performance, consistency, efficiency, and reliable technical support.”, adds the director.
Meanwhile, TOMRA Food also made significant contribution to the country’s food industry. Over the past nine years, TOMRA has installed more than 150 units across India and established a 4,000-square-foot customer service center in Bengaluru in 2019.
As the industry-standard sorting machine for the vegetable, fresh-cut, and potato processing sectors, the TOMRA 5B proves ideal for accurately sorting French fries according to size and preventing chips from clustering or developing wet centers after frying. Equipped with cutting-edge sensor technology, including 360-degree inspection, off-belt NIR laser, advanced shape algorithms, and artificial intelligence, this belt-sorter detects up to 99% of foreign materials and analyzes French fries from multiple angles. The result is the precise removal of unwanted objects, ensuring high-quality outputs and increased yields.
In addition to the TOMRA 5B, Bizz Corp has also benefitted from the Orbit Steam Peeler, which has significantly reduced product losses during the peeling process. Traditional potato peelers can result in food losses up to 30% during mechanical peeling and 20% with low-tech steam peelers. However, TOMRA's Orbit Steam Peeler has minimized food losses to as little as 6.5%. The Orbit Steam Peeler achieves its exceptional performance by peeling potatoes at high steam pressure for a short duration, a capability that low-cost, low-tech steam peelers lack.
Mr. Patel highlighted TOMRA’s excellent training support, which covered both the TOMRA 5B and the Orbit Steam Peeler. The director added that Bizz Corp is confident that their partnership with TOMRA will continue to thrive as they progress further in their journey together.
