The South African organic stone fruit season is getting started soon.
VU | OTC Organics B.V.
OTC Organics, the distributor of organic fruit and vegetables, is opening the South African organic stone fruit season with peaches, nectarcots and apricots from its regular partner Pro-Plum Orchards, part of the OrganoGroup.
They expect for the first stone fruit harvest in their warehouse in Poeldijk, The Netherlands, for further exportation to Europe. OTC Organics is the only distributor of organic stone fruit of the OrganoGroup in Europe.
Already for 16 years the family business has been growing certified organic fruit. The company grows about 65 ha of organic stone fruit in the Waterberg Mountains, near Mookghopong (Limpopo) in South Africa. The region is ideal for growing stone fruit due to the very early start of the season, conditioned by its high location.
They grow different local plum varieties such as Fortune, African Rose, African Delight, Ruby Sun and Ruby Crunch, and even replanting late varieties like Angeleno.
Even after Christmas plums and nectarcots still will be available. During the rest of the year the range consists of peaches, nectarcots and apricots.
The company also offers organic sweet potato from February to August and kuri squash from December to February.
