The ports of Florida are the main entrance to the United States of Costa Rica bananas.
Costa Rica's exporters are concerned about the impact of Hurricane Irma on the ports of Florida and Puerto Rico, which have caused difficulties related to electricity, logistics and storage.
Costa Rica's exports (bananas, pineapples) enter the United States mainly through the ports of Florida. Puerto Rico buys vegetables and tubers in Costa Rica. More or less affected by the hurricane, some ports have encountered difficulties in receiving vessels or storing products.
Some products were lost because they could not be stored under normal conditions. Given this uncertainty, many exporting companies have sought solutions like other ports of entry, further north in the United States. Only the return to normal conditions will restore the usual export volumes.
