World orange production expected to total just 47.8 million tonnes

World orange production for 2022/23 is estimated at 47.8 million tonnes, down 5% on the previous season (Photo: citrusindustry.net).
			United States: production expected to reach 2.3 million tonnes, the lowest level for over 56 years. 
		
			Brazil: production is expected to reach 16.8 million tonnes, down by around 179,000 tonnes on the previous season. 
		
			China: production expected to reach 7.6 million tonnes, a slight increase due to a larger surface area.
		
			European Union: production is forecast at 5.9 million tonnes, down 13%, mainly due to hot, dry summer conditions in Spain and Italy.
		
			Mexico: production is forecast at 4.2 million tonnes, down by around 395,000 tonnes, mainly due to the prolonged drought in north-eastern Mexico.
		
			Egypt: production is expected to reach 3.6 million tonnes, an increase of 600,000 tonnes due to an increase in harvested area and favourable weather conditions.
		
			South Africa: production is expected to reach 1.6 million tonnes, a slight increase due to favourable weather conditions and an increase in the harvested area.
		
			Turkey: production is forecast at 1.3 million tonnes, down by around 430,000 tonnes due to frost affecting flowering.
		
		Morocco: production is expected to reach 783,000 tonnes, down by around 367,000 tonnes, due to a reduction in the harvested area, unfavourable weather conditions and water shortages. 
	
		Chile: production is expected to reach 174,000 tonnes, an increase of around 10,000 tonnes, due to favourable weather conditions and an increase in the harvested area.
