This increase in production should not lead to huge changes in export volumes.
The recent meeting of World Apple and Pear Association (WAPA) members at Fruit Logistica enabled production forecasts to be made based on data collected from industry professionals in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, New Caledonia, New Zealand and South Africa.
The 2019 production of the Southern Hemisphere is expected to reach 5,261,000 tonnes for apples and 1,327,000 tonnes for pears.
These projected volumes represent a 2% increase over the 2018 harvest for apples and pears.
