Mexico produced 716 930 tonnes of apples in 2016.
Mexico is the 13th largest apple producer in the world, accounting for 77.26% of domestic demand. According to the forecasts of the Nacional Agrícola Plan, domestic production will develop and imports will be diversified.
The National Agricultural plans to boost national production. With the integration of improved varieties and rootstocks in regions with high productive potential. Then by developing selection processes and packaging products for more profitability.
With regard to imports, the desire is to consolidate existing trade relations with, in particular, the United States, Canada, Chile, New Zealand, but also to strengthen relations with Italy and France in view of the supply capacity.
In 2016 apple crops covered 54,248 hectares and production totaled 716,930 tonnes.
