The Moldovan cherry season begins. Despite the fact that the country was faced with spring frosts, it does not affect greatly the cherry harvest. The members of Moldova Fruct association have big plans for European markets.
Adrian Cojocaru, head of marketing for Moldova Fruct, said: “The country produces more than 15 thousand tons of berries annually, but this year it is harvested about 10% less. Nevertheless, we have enough volume for export.”

Moldova does not compete with other countries yet, primarily Turkey, which produces cherries, as it markets are less oriented. The demand is large enough for everyone to co-exist. Cojocaru explained that it does not mean that association do not strive to improve. Plans to reveal new packaging and the team also working on updating Moldova Fruct website.
“The new website will complement the efforts of fruit promotion in international exhibitions and in trade missions. It is especially important during this period with travel limitations, when website can even replace these events,” Iurie Fala, executive director of association, concluded.
