Exports of avocados will decrease of 56%
MD
The Committee of the Chilean Hass avocado has planned that avocados exports will decrease by 56% compared to the previous season.
Adolfo Ochagavia, Chairman of the Hass Committee lamented the decline in production: "We had less fruit than originally planned. I think we'll finish with around 85,000 tons for export. "
This is a fall of 56% compared to the 195,000 tons exported in 2009-2010, a record figures in the industry.
The industry expected a decline, but not of this extent. The 3 / 4 of the decline can be attributed to seasonal fruit, or alternately. The remaining quarter of the damage has been caused by frost.
