The Colombian government has made a gesture to help exporters of agricultural products: insurance against fluctuations in the exchange rate.
The Colombian government now provides a fund of 26 million USD for the establishment of an insurance against fluctuations in the exchange rate. Intended for agricultural exporters, the insurance will enter into force in the coming days, said the Minister of Agriculture.
It may be applied for all of 2012 and will cover 700 million USD.
The recent sharp fall in the price of the dollar fell heavily on bananas, coffee and flowers. The Government has therefore set up this insurance to protect the country's agricultural exports that are vital to the Colombian economy.
