The Atlantic Bridge is the longest cable bridge in the world with a central span of 530 m.
French company VINCI will begin construction of the Atlantic Bridge, the longest cabled, concrete bridge in the world with a central span of 530 m. Located 3 miles north of Gatun Locks, near the city of Colon the four lane bridge measures 1050 meters and the tower height is an impressive 212.5 meters with a vertical clearance of 75 meters.
It will allow the passage of large containers such as "Post-Panamax" and is part of the project to expand operations of the Canal. It will also allow vehicles to pass through the Panama Canal on the Atlantic side, independently of the operation of locks.
Work began in January 2013 and will last for a period of 3.5 years.
