Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries: their introduction is recent in Morocco and is an excellent alternative to diversify the fruit production of the country.
The area planted with strawberries, blueberries and raspberries now covers almost 5,000 hectares of which 85% is dedicated to strawberry, 10% to blueberry and 5% to raspberry.
Highly demanded for export, the berries recorded a spectacular increase in their surfaces. If the areas dedicated to strawberries stabilize around 3500 hectares, raspberry surfaces exceed 395 hectares and the area of blueberries 280 hectares.
Most of the production is exported and the main market is Europe. Europe that can not satisfy its needs for red fruits during the winter period and part of the spring period. Moroccan production can respond to this because of its harvest schedule and geographical proximity to Europe. Spain, France and the United Kingdom are the main European customers and in other markets the United States and Russia.
