Heavy rains have led to a decline in production and a decline in quality of Russian onion.
Onions harvest did not occur normally due to torrential rain.
Due to heavy rains in the southern and central Russia , farmers have not been able to harvest onions adequately since early October. There are still a lot of onions in the fields, and a large part could be lost with the fall in temperature expected.
Farmers also report that the quality of produce suffers of high humidity: onions are not suitable to storage. This should lead to higher prices.
