Fast food continues to grow
MD
By offering something for everyone such as sandwiches, pizza, hamburgers, salads and pasta, fast food continues to expand.
The fast food market reached a turnover of €32.7 billion in 2011 representing an increase of 4.65% in 2011 and a growth of 66.5% since 2004 when the market was estimated at € 19.7 billion.
Growth should continue because of reduced lunch breaks for employees, but mostly because of the crisis. Fast food, snacking, counter sales are still cheaper than a traditional restaurant.
The most popular fast food is the sandwich with more than 2 billion units sold (65% of them were baguettes), a market of 6.62 billion euros.
