Brazilian fruit exports to Arab countries are to increase in 2021.
Eduardo Brandão, the executive director of Brazilian Fruit Growers-Exporters Association (Abrafrutas) expects that Brazilian fruit exports to Arab countries will increase next year. The main exported fruits to the Middle East are mangos, limes, grapes and melons.
The exports will be destined to the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
From the beginning of the year until October there were 725.000 tons exported, which is a 2.8 percent increase compared to last year.
Brandão expects maximum volume of exports in the last quarter of the year, when demand usually rises, with an intended revenue of 1 billion dollars.
The volume of imported fruits to the Middle East in 2019 was almost 15.000 tons. The UAE was the leading buyer in 2019 among the Arab countries, reaching the 13th place in the overall rate of Brazilian fruit importers.
Acquiring the halal certificate could help Brazilians to exceed this market. It would prove that a product was made according to the Muslim precepts. This certification confirms that a food does not contain any ingredients prohibited by the Islamic religion. Even in non-Muslim and non-Arab countries such as China, Japan or Canada most importers require the halal certificate in the entire production chain.
