The Russian embargo on "western" Fruits & Vegetables did little drop import volumes. The volumes imported from Russia fell only by 6 % between end 2013 and end of 2014, 670 000 tonnes.
Before the boycott decision in August 2014, the import volumes from Russia were already much lower than in the previous year. Then, with the embargo , Russia offset missing volumes by increasing products from other countries.
The country seems to have benefited the most from this situation is Turkey that has increased its exports by 25% between August and December 2014. Then , China has increased its shipments by 10% . Other countries, such as Belarus (+ 35%) , Serbia ( 36% ) , Macedonia (+ 228 % ) recorded spectacular growth rates but previous volumes were extremely low .
