Asparagus production too low to satisfy the demand
FJ
The demand is growing but the production is not kept up.
Asparagus is grown in Vietnam since the 1960s. In the south of the country, asparagus is considered as a profitable agricultural product, more than the cashews or rubber. Some provinces (Bac Lieu, Binh Phuoc, Tra Vinh) provide land suitable for cultivation. But the production does not increase enough to meet domestic demand and export.
The export of asparagus experiences difficulties. Some producing companies even admit no longer accept orders due to lack of product. According to professionals, the volumes have not increased because of the lack of planted areas and the absence of appropriate policy of development.
