Concern for the future of almond orchards
FJ
The worst drought in 100 years is raging in California and worries almond growers.
In California the situation is worrying for farmers. The year 2013 was the driest ever recorded. Very few rains, the lack of snow on the mountains (the main source of water) has resulted in the decline of reservoirs and dams. To cope with the lack of rains, California farmers now drill wells to reach groundwater tables.
To thereby allow their almonds survive. The irrigation of almond should not be abandoned, in order to ensure a production cycle, almonds need a very precise amount of water not only to produce but also to survive.
