In Argentina the blueberry season runs from mid-September to mid-November.
New logistic trend observed in Argentina for exports of blueberries: the share of exports by sea is increasing.
According to the DHL GLOBAL FORWARDING forecast, the company specializing in air and sea transport of DEUTSCHE POST DHL, exports by sea of Argentine blueberries could reach 30%.
This trend seems to be increasing, with 1,400 tonnes exported by sea last year, 3 times more than the previous year and 30 times more than in 2015.
Several factors explain this shift towards maritime shipments: higher-quality and more sustainable production in transports, treatments and use of advanced technologies in a controlled atmosphere thus preserving fruits better, and finally improving costs and therefore competitiveness.
Between the last 2 seasons, shipments by sea increased to all export destinations: + 57% for shipments to the United States and Canada, + 23% for Great Britain and + 20% for continental Europe.
