Fiji plans closer cooperation with Australia to develop its agriculture.
Fiji plans to strengthen and expand its agricultural sector to increase exports and reduce food imports. These goals include a modernization of agriculture led by the Ministry and cooperation agreements to evaluate the best means.
The Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) Symposium profiled Australian and New Zealand expertise to strengthen the skills and capabilities of plant biosecurity professionals and institutions to address plant pests and diseases .
With Australia's leading expertise in biosafety and food security, as well as its willingness to increase aid for business investment, Fiji believes it will be able to achieve its goals in the future.
In the Fijian economy, agriculture is an important sector with a vital role in foreign exchange earnings through exports. For 2017, export earnings generated $ 208 million, up 7% from 2016.
