Trabzon: leader in exports to Russia of fresh fruits and vegetables

Trabzon is a county that is located in northeastern Turkey, on the Black Sea. Among the 21 Turkish counties, Trabzon led the export of fruit and vegetables sent to Russia, with almost 40 million dollars. This is an important part, given that the export figure to Russia for the first 5 months of 2017 is around USD 124 million for the fresh fruit and vegetables sector (figures from the Union of Exporters of The Eastern Black Sea).

This represents an increase of 144% in quantity and 80% in value compared to the same period in 2016 for the whole of Turkey, this increase being 91% in quantity and 58% in value for the department of Trabzon.

Exports to Russia are by sea, from the port of Samsun to Novorossisk, Eleni and Touapse with ro-ro ships.

The President of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association says that the exporters of this region have made significant investments in transport and logistics by sea, including refrigerated containers and logistics that enable to reduce the transport time to 8-12 hours, which represents an undeniable commercial advantage.
